THE PROJECT
The objectives of our cultural and ecological outreach projects are to empower the Lanquín community by creating regenerative economic opportunities and environmental education programs that will provide healthier living conditions, economic opportunity, and initiate lasting benefits to the local community.

THE CENTER WILL:

Promote and provide educational opportunities in regenerative living and holistic well-being.

Develop living model examples of regenerative development applied to food production, water, energy, and housing.

Develop harmonious relationships with surrounding communities through the distribution of appropriate technologies, support and incubation of a local seed bank, and skills transfer to local farmers, especially cacao farmers.

Support local job creation, small business incubation & development, especially in the production of appropriate technologies, organic products, and traditional crafts & medicines.

Host an international volunteer program for those wishing to give their support to the center.

Capture and store the cultural knowledge of the rapidly eroding local Mayan traditions, and be a physical place for it to be stored, propagated, and re-seeded.

Be a productive demonstration of a food forest focused on cacao, as well as an educational community center for public use and a sustainable living space.
OUR VISION
Our vision is a thriving community that is empowered to problem-solve and create lasting positive impact for future generations. Tuq tu’quilal will be regenerative living and learning center that transforms individuals and communities by providing education, mentorship, and replicable models for permaculture, appropriate technology, and youth leadership. We strive to build intercultural bridges, and social and physical infrastructure for positive local impact.

Tuq’tu’quilal is the effort of an ecosystem of organizations working together with the local community members of Lanquin. It is truly a collaborative effort.
PARTNERS
Nuevo Mundo Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on on demonstrating permaculture and appropriate technology in North, Central and South America through events that empower youth, foster intergenerational dialogue, celebrate indigenous wisdom and curate permaculture focused workshop spaces at festivals with the goal of encouraging regenerative communities.
Yellow Seed is an impact-driven nonprofit that creates opportunities for small-scale cacao producers to showcase their products, access new markets and build consistent trading relationships. Yellow Seed provides the space to make people, products and resources visible so that better trade can take place.
Spora Bioarquitectura is a Mexican bioconstruction collective focused on design, consulting, and construction of natural spaces, and greening events. Spora is founded on responsible civil action, constructing and diffusing living projects for a conscious and sustainable world.
Cosmic Convergence is an annual gathering in Santiago Atitlan incorporating art, music, education for conscious living, and Mayan culture & traditions. It is a portal of entry to step into an emerging planetary tribal culture, and a platform for the expression of new and ancient ways of being. It is a convergence of past, present, and future, envisioning the new paradigm of a technological-tribal society that is becoming more tangible each day. The objective is to expose the attendees to ancestral and post-industrial ways of living in order to provoke a shift in consciousness to rethink what lifestyles are possible in post-2012 reality. The gathering forms part of an ongoing international tribal revival. The event is 100% non-profit and all proceeds go towards supporting social projects on Lake Atitlan, where the festival works with indigenous communities to grow a greener future.
Maya Mountain Research Farm is a registered non-governmental organization and working demonstration farm that promotes sustainable agriculture, appropriate technology and food security using permaculture principles and applied biodiversity. Founded in 1988, Maya Mountain Research Farm is one of the oldest ongoing permaculture projects in Central America. MMRF is a research and training center committed to promoting applied biological diversity as a means of ensuring food security, and replicating ecological services of primary forest in complex agroforestry systems.
Surplus Permaculture is a group of passionate people dedicated to empower the world through sensible permaculture design and creating resilient, abundant, fulfilling landscapes. It is a cooperative of qualified permaculture designers, spreading the seeds of change. Surplus has bases in 3 continents (North America, Europe, Southeast Asia,) with a support network extending all around the world. Surplus designers all have extensive experience with permaculture design, hands on implementation, and facilitation of courses. Surplus cooperates with The Panya Project, permaculture education center, in Thailand. Surplus seeks to provide local services supported by a global network of permaculture professionals who aim to create regenerative, high quality designs that not only improve the land but also the quality of life of all inhabitants. Surplus believes in thoughtful observation of natural systems, a blend of whole systems thinking and ecologically responsive design, and a reverence of traditional and local knowledge. Surplus considers everyone as a stakeholder in the protection and revitalization of biological systems.
