Job Opportunity

Director of Operations

Location: Tuqtuquilal, Lanquín, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala
Type: Full-time | On-site
Start Dates: November 2025

The Director of Operations ensures the smooth daily functioning of all aspects of Tuqtuquilal: cacao production, team management, hospitality, finances, materials procurement, and sales fulfillment. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone highly organized, proactive, communicative, and aligned with our mission of regenerative living and heart-led commerce.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment. They must have a positive attitude, be willing to roll up their sleeves and help out with whatever is needed, and have a coach/mentor mentality with the team. This is not a traditional ‘manager’ position - you will not be ‘managing’ people as much as making sure all operations are aligned to our greater goals and that the team has the support and resources they need. Days will be full, dynamic, and require you to wear many hats, helping out wherever is needed. This role is great for someone who can stay aligned to the big picture vision, advocate for that on the team, while also diving into the day-to-day details.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Support & Leadership

  • Supervise and support all cacao production workers, hospitality staff, and groundskeepers.

  • Host weekly team meetings to align on goals, tasks, and updates.

  • Handle hiring, onboarding, and basic HR tasks (in collaboration with owner as needed).

  • Mediate and resolve conflicts among staff promptly and fairly.

Finances

  • Manage the operational budget for cacao production, hospitality, and maintenance.

  • Track expenses, payments, and petty cash accurately.

  • Ensure all workers are paid correctly and on time, managing payroll records.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the owner, including expenses and budget tracking.

  • Identify cost-saving measures without compromising quality.

Materials Procurement

  • Maintain a reliable inventory of all necessary materials (cacao processing supplies, hospitality goods, maintenance materials).

  • Order supplies proactively before they run low.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers.

Communication with Ownership

  • Maintain proactive and transparent communication with the owner through weekly reports and as-needed updates.

  • Communicate problems early with proposed solutions.

  • Maintain clear documentation of activities, challenges, improvements, and ideas.

Facilities & Land Stewardship

  • Coordinate basic maintenance tasks (repairs, painting, garden upkeep, etc.).

  • Organize monthly "reset" days for deep cleaning or infrastructure improvements.

  • Identify infrastructure needs and propose improvement plans.

Local Community Relationships

  • Maintain positive and respectful relationships with neighboring community members.

  • Represent Tuqtuquilal’s values of respect, collaboration, and stewardship in local interactions.

  • Support local community projects when appropriate, with owner approval.
